The Little River Campground, Banks Peninsula has been using the CM40 for over 10 years with no issues. We investigated many composting toilet systems and decided the Clivus Multrum CM40 model was the best by far – the simplest and most affordable for the amount of daily visits. We even get compliments as to how good they are!
Over summer we can have over 100 guests staying per night. Our system has 4 pedestals that collect waste into one large composting chamber that is emptied once a year.
We got a Clivus Multrum CM8 composting toilet because it fits our ecological ethos. The Waitakere Ranges Local Board consented the composting toilet and gave us the funding for it as an eco-friendly solution.
We’ve had the CM8 for over 3 years and it hasn’t given us any grief. We’ve had no complaints from visitors and overall people have been most impressed!
It is also impressive how little time is spent on maintenance – the compost is raked once a month and after 3 years we still haven’t had to empty the toilet!

I’m so pleased I’m not having to use precious water to flush a toilet as I’m on rain catchment where I am. I also don’t have the problems of failed septic systems or the pump out and service fees and odours many people experience.

The toilet is easy to keep clean and absolutely no smells when making a deposit
I am extremely happy with the Clivus Multrum CM LP system in my tiny house. I have now rotated the chamber out twice and with the addition of the Nature Flush Enzymes, and bulking agent after each solid it is composting down well in the 3 months it rests between rotations. The addition of a small extraction fan means there is no smell at all.
We highly recommend this composting toilet. Having had the Clivus toilet now for over a year, we have found it to be a 100% improvement on the mulching composting toilet we had previously. Our tenant is very happy with it. Clivus is an extremely user friendly system and easy to install.
NO odor, no hassle, easy to clean. Looks like a normal toilet , can use like a normal toilet, except no flushing, which saves on water bills.
We would use this for most house hold situations. Great.
We purchased and installed a Clivus Multrum CM10 at our family bach and couldn’t be happier with the service and the product. We chose the CM10 because of it’s size (it needed to be installed under the bach), the cost (much cheaper than traditional septic tanks), easy maintenance required, but mostly because it uses zero water (we are on rain/tank water).
We’ve had the CM10 for a few years now and continue to enjoy the ease of use and functionality. It performs as described – no smell, no flies, and easy maintenance – way beyond expectations. It continues to work perfectly for us.
